"Female Fronted" Rock Bands

Image
Burying the Term So, we're still having to talk about this. 2020 is just around the corner and we're still stuck with problems we've been dealing with since the 60's. Granted we have come a long way since then and the treatment of people in the industry has massively improved, especially considering the amount of abuse artist received throughout the 20th century. Many people however, believe that we still have one big problem in the industry when it comes to Rock N' Roll and even Metal, myself included. And what is that problem? Well, its 'female fronted' Rock bands, its time to end the term. Now, I've never been overly PC or anything like that, but there is one thing that I never understood, and that is the term 'female fronted' that has been haunting Rock music since its inception, and I am just baffled that it's still used. Personally I never saw the necessity for such a thing, or why it draws so much attention for that matter. "A

Alter Bridge 'Walk the Sky' - Album Review

Image
Melodies, Guitars and Hypnosis 'Walk the Sky' marks the sixth studio album by heavy rock band Alter Bridge following 2016's 'The Last Hero', and it certainly confirms that their work ethic is far from slowing down. Since the release of their debut 'One Day Remains' in 2004, they've consistently released new material every three years without fail. Considering that Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy have also released several more albums with various other projects on top of that, this makes Alter Bridge's track record remarkable, especially as the standards of those albums have been just as consistent. Where their debut really set the ball rolling for what will come, to me it's 'Blackbird' where they really found themselves and their sense of style, and each album since has been a variation of that sound, 'Fortress' being my personal favorite. So is 'Walk the Sky' up to par with albums like 'Blackbird' or '

Slash 'Living the Dream Tour' - Album Review

Image
Rock N' Roll at it's Finest Since the release of his first solo album in 2010, Slash has kept himself busy. Once the record was released he quickly went about recruiting musicians for the album's subsequent tour. That band consisted of Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy, former Alice Cooper drummer Brent Fitz, bass player Todd Kerns and rhythm guitarist Bobby Schneck, later replaced by Frank Sidoris. Although it wasn't known at the time, this line-up would eventually be known as Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. With the band becoming such a live phenomenon and such a popular collaboration, they put their work to use in the studio, pumping out album after album. First was 2012's 'Apocalyptic Love', a raw, uncut, gritty record of pure hard rock. This was followed by 2014's 'World on Fire', an epic, loud, almost cinematic experience. Each album both differed in tone but were similar in style, they definitely created their own

The Future of AC/DC

Image
To Be Or Not To Be AC/DC. The name speaks for itself. What is there to say that hasn't been said already? Those four letters have been a staple of, not just Rock N' Roll, but popular culture itself, and deservedly so. There isn't anything I can say that's original, it's all been said by millions across the globe. I'm not going to sit here, vomiting up words of praise, accomplishment and relevance, you've heard enough of that over the years I'm sure. I sincerely doubt my additional praise will add anything else to the discussion, it would just simply be another pointless approval that would be lost among the millions of others that did the same. Instead, let's address the elephant in the room. Let's address the question that has been on the minds of every single one of those fans, and even the band itself. The question that has repeatedly been avoided. Is AC/DC done? Well, lots of people seem to think so. Are they too old? Are they too far gon

Some Guy with a Guitar Okay then, I'm some guy with a guitar, and I'm here to talk about other guys and gals who play guitar. If you haven't guessed from the title or the dashing photos, I have a rather obsessive and almost addictive passion for Hard Rock music, and when I say Rock, I mean it in all it's forms. Rock N' Roll is an umbrella that encompasses countless sub genres, so many that sitting here naming them all would take eons, and would probably bore most of you in the process. But, despite the large variety, I love it all; Rock, Metal, Grunge, Alternative, Blues, bla bla bla... This is a passion that has been brewing for some time, well I say some time, it's been pretty much my entire life. I love old school Rock, and I love modern Metal, I don't think there's a single element of the music that doesn't resonate with me. The passion and the sheer attitude that so many great Rock bands ooze is just hypnotic to me. Artists like AC/DC, Slash
